OUR MISSION: Founded to connect, educate, innovate and inspire a pipeline of talent of women and underrepresented minorities in STEMM to forge a path towards a digital frontier where their transformative contributions reshape the landscape of AI and healthcare for all. We partner with academia, industry, and policy makers to break barriers in healthcare amplifying the potential of underrepresented communities to innovate fearlessly, advancing equity and spurring progress in healthcare for a universally healthier future.

WHY TO CHOOSE US

This program will expose underrepresented, highly motivated prospective physicians to laboratory experience, medical mentorship, and community through a pipeline of physician-scientist-oriented work. This exposure will supply underrepresented students the resources they lack in their own communities, allowing them to be successful in a highly competitive field.

Research Experience

Rich, longitudinal laboratory experiences guided by a dedicated faculty member in a robustly funded laboratory are foundational to the STEMM Prep+ program.

Community

Because a sense of community promotes academic success, programmatic activities are essential for the STEMM Prep+ program. Student will have a community of scholars through the program throughout college, ultimately and ideally becoming mentors themselves.

Local and Partner School of Medicine Mentorship

SIU’s partnership will be essential to student benefit, as college and medical school mentorship facilitates student enrichment. Finally, STEMM Prep+ leaders will facilitate students’ application and acceptance to graduate programs as physician-scientists.

Curriculum

Students need to have a college-level curriculum that enhance the understanding of basic biology, bioinformatics, and research processes of their research field and broadly related fields beyond their project and laboratory experience.

Scaling of an integrated longitudinal program for college students with the goal of developing a robust pipeline of URI physician- scientists and physician- engineers.

Innovation Challenge attracting women and underrepresented founders in STEMM fields coupled with 6 week fellowship to prepare for venture capital investment and company growth

EQ-MEDIA

Curate events convening healthtech speakers to raise awareness around and create implementation strategies for thoughtful deployment of AI infrastructure into healthcare, countering risk of bias and misinformation

EQ-COACH

Connect impactful women- led and founded companies with grant, sponsorship, & funding opportunities that fuel the growth of their company vision

ADVANCING STUDENTS INTO HEALTHCARE

There is a broad awareness of the shortage of physician-scientists nationally and the lack of racial diversity in the physician-scientist workforce. The consequences of this shortage impact include translational scientific innovation, health policy, and leadership. The trust afforded to physicians and scientists by diverse patient populations is additionally negatively effected.
